dotDK ‘s proposal to operate the .dk Internet domain will promote the dynamic and high quality growth of the Danish Internet community.
It will do so because it empowers and harnesses the Danish Internet community to achieve the benefits of self-regulation and it will upgrade the technology and operations to global standards of availability, efficiency and security. In addition, dotDK proposes to enhance transparency, reinvigorate links to the international Internet community and establish a framework for continuous improvement and innovation.
dotDK proposes to contract Afilias Limited, the second largest provider of domain name registry services in the world, to provide the technology to power .dk in Denmark. Afilias’ technology has been proven to support some of the largest Internet domains in existence (such as .info and .org), and has been proven sable and reliable even in the face of heavy loads and security threats.

Background
On June 26th the National IT and Telecom Agency of Denmark appointed dotDK to be the next administrator of the Danish top level domain. This happend after the dotDK Society (dotDK) on April 1st 2008 submitted an application in response to the National IT and Telecom Agency of Denmark’s tender for administrators for the.dk country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD), as specified under the Domain Act. This tender process will decide whether a new administrator is selected for the .dk domain, or if the current provider DKHostmaster will keep the contract.
