On June 26th, the National IT and Telecom Agency of Denmark appointed dotDK to be the next administrator of the Danish top level domain under the circumstance that dotDK provides proof of broad support in the Danish internet community. Therefore, we need your support and invite you to join the dotDK Society

.dk is one of the world’s largest country code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs) with more than 800,000 registrations. With a population of just over 5 million in Denmark, this means that the penetration rate for domain names is significant, at just over 1 in 6 people potentially owning a .dk domain.

dotDK believes that a technically sophisticated country like Denmark, which was ranked as #1 on the World Economic Forum’s 2007 Network Readiness ranking, deserves the best technology available to enhance the security of the .dk domain, improve its efficiency, and ensure stability. Further, we believe that the .dk domain belongs to ALL the people of Denmark, and our proposal embeds mechanisms to encourage the participation of all Danes in the key decisions in .dk.

Under the Domain Act, the National IT and Telecom Agency of Denmark opened a public tender process for new administrators for .dk. In response, dotDK submitted its application on April 1, 2008.
